Polyphon Music Box 14″ Disc with 12 Bells and 12 Discs. Inlaid Walnut Case. Circa 1900 and very rare!
This is a very attractive and rare to find Polyphone musical box with 12 bells in very nice condition. The box is a fresh estate find from an English Tutor Estate home. This beautiful box measures 18 1/2″ x 17″ x 10″. It plays 14″ discs and comes with extra 12 original discs, the original crank, lock and key. All the teeth are intact. This box has beautiful tone and the bells sets it off in a class of its own. The box has a really nice walnut case with a beautiful floral inlay on top.
There is also a very nice original Polyphone label on the inside case lid, with an idyllic German hillside adorned with houses and a castle. The case appears to have the original finish. The mechanism plays well, beautiful sound. The box plays on a single comb and the 12 bells which can be turned off if you want. The case looks good with a few small scuffs expected for its age. The box works fine, and I am not a collector but I am sure if it needs a cleaning or oiling. The extra disc are all in good, playable condition. There is a small lever on the inside of the case and not sure what it does.
