1900’s Greenwich Ave and Mulry Square, 7th Ave. Vintage New York City street sign. South New York City Cobalt Blue Enamel Street Sign. You will never find another one! This is a one-of-a-kind item. Exceedingly historic original 1900’s cobalt blue enamel New York City corner post street sign which marked the corner of “Greenwich Ave and Mulry Square (7th Ave. South).” This New York City, doubled sided hump-back ornate sign set inside its original heavy cast iron frame and bracket.
Greenwich Avenue in the West Village is one of the oldest existing roads in Manhattan. It was originally part of an Indian trail. Mulry Square is a triangular lot in the heart of the West Village at the southwest corner of Greenwich Avenue and 7th Avenue South thought to be the site of a wedge-shaped diner that was the inspiration for Edward Hopper’s famous painting Nighthawks. The fencing around the lot once supported Tiles for America, a September 11 memorial consisting of some 6,000 tiles created across the country.
This exceedingly rare and beautiful New York City street sign is made of rich cobalt blue porcelain with white lettering over steel. This has the original ornate cast iron frame and bracket. The porcelain signs came be removed and measures 22” L x 12 T and from the outer cast iron frame edge to center or corner 29″ L and overall wrap-around length 58”. This historic corner street sign should be placed in a museum or a place of prominence.
Condition: The overall condition of the New York City street sign is extraordinary especially for the age. Please see the pictures included they best describe the condition and features of this piece. Over-all a Classic Original piece of Americana and a great Historical New York City piece. Size: measures 22″ across x 12″ tall and 58” overall length. It has no breaks, normal wear, some blemishes completely original with all of its age and character still intact. You will never find another one! This is a one-of-a-kind item.
